Why I like Katie Price

November 20, 2009

I was watching I’m a Celebrity get me out of here the other day. Kim from ‘How clean is your house?’ was laying into Katie Price about her loving the press attention. She was quite nasty with it. Katie just sat there and smiled. A bit later she was nominated by the British public for the third time in a row to do the Bushtucker Trial. She was game enough about it and did quite well. It just showed though how hated she is by the public that they’ll vote for her to do these awful tasks that she’s obviously quite scared of.

I on the other hand quite like and respect the woman. She’s not the most attractive woman in the world and by her own admission, not the most intelligent but yet has managed to amass a multi million pound fortune. Not bad at all for a glamour girl. She’s savvy enough to know what the public want and to keep herself in the public eye. If you think what makes a good, interesting celebrity: naturally outspoken – check! Wearing  ridiculously skimpy outifts – check!  Calling your children stupid names – check! Entering into a celeb marriage – check! Divorce & subsequent meltdown – check! General bitchiness – double check!

For many celebrities this is as far as they get, names and body parts in the papers, heat‘s front cover once or twice and off they go into the celeb void now filled with the likes of Kerry Katona, that bird from Liberty X and the old bloke who won X Factor a few years ago. Katie has reinvented herslef into so many incarnations that there’s always been a least one section of society who’s still been interested, men who like her boobs, equestrians who like her obsession with horses, sad losers who want to be her (not me in case you were wondering) or wannabe glamour girls. I fall into a different catagory which I think is made up of just me – someone who appreciates the hard work she’s put in to marketing herself so well she’s made a fortune and diversified into so many different niches. To turn herself from near porn star to mummy, clothing designer, writer (yes I know she doesn’t write her own books), singer etc. Pretty impressive to me.

She gets a lot of shit, a lot of which is deserved. Half the time she doesn’t bloody help herself with all the crap she spouts. But what’s struck me as quite unfair this week is the papers really laying into her about leaving her kids. Err, hasn’t Lucy Benjamin got young kids? No one’s slated her. They had a go at Katie for being in a bikini. Err, who went naked? Kim! It just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth really.

I don’t think she’s perfect, I don’t aspire to be like her, I wouldn’t call my daughter Princess Tiamii but I would like to think I have enough nouse to make my own way in the world and build myself up from nothing like she did (although I don’t have & don’t want the attributes that originally brought her to fame). I have to have respect for her for that and I have to like her ‘fuck you’ attitude.

This by the way is a view I don’t think is shared by many.  Craig and I have actually had little rows about this. He likes Peter Andre while I think he’s a creepy, slimy, self obsessed, patronising, greasy little man who’s made himself look like a saint( Peter, not Craig) . If he thinks Katie is bad for publicising herself so much then what the hell is he doing with his own show & crying in the papers every week? Craig is firmly Team Andre and is threatening to get Sam a tshirt made up saying just that. Over my dead body!

I’m firmly on Team Price and hope that the public stop slating the poor girl for doing what she does best – publicising herself, starting new lines of her business, getting her boobs out, when it’s the public that put her there in the first place and are obviously interested enough to keep her in the limelight.

P.S. Lou – you’re my best friend & I respect your opinions but I do think Pete’s greasy & minging. I fear this post may have an effect on our friendship but would hope that we can rise above it. If, as you wish, said greasy minger does become your husband I will of course call him Pete and not discuss the above post in front of him. x

I quite agree with you actually.
Well, I wouldn’t say I ‘like’ Katie, don’t really have strong feelings either way,and don’t watch I’m a celeb, but I have respect for anyone who makes themselves a fortune out of nothing!
And I *totally* agre with you about Peter Andre – that man is *such* a hypocrite! Since they split, he has been whoring himself out to any programme/paper that will have him! Marriages break up everyday – get over yourself!!
Also worth mentioning I think – whatever may have happened between them, he has A LOT to thank her for – if they hadn’t hooked up, he’d still just be ‘that bloke who sang that rubbish song with his top off’ and would *never* be bleating away on every TV show!
Actually, looking at it that way – I don’t like her after all!! Haha 😉

She does have a lot to answer for actually!! Peter is awful, he’s so smug & does my head in!

Hi – thanks for visiting my new blog! It’s fun when someone calls in. I agree with you about Katie – I do admire the way she-who-is-not-the- most-academic-person on this earth has managed to be business savvy in such a big way.Full marks to her, I say – only I don’t know how on earth she has the TIME to do all this! For the record, I didn’t like Peter A, but I gather from a friend of a friend of an acquaintance that he is a lovely guy, and a wonderful Dad, so I forgive him being a lousy singer and a bit greasy!!

Hi Diney! I’ve really been enjoying your blog, thanks for popping in here! I can imagine Peter is lovely & that’s what makes my skin creep. I prefer bad boys, men like him do not attract me! Strange but true!

Can’t agree with you about Katie. She’s made money from selling her body and it’s her advisers that will have ensured that they milk it for all its worth.

Publicising the break up is unfair on the kids in my opinion. I’m all for continuing your own life after kids but hers have been put through a traumatic time recently and perhaps it’s a little selfish for her to be jetting off to Australia unnecessarily.

As for the trials, she signed the deal knowing what was gonna happen, and she is getting £350k for it. I don’t think I’d mind too much if it was for that kind of money (she’s done worse for money and to benefit her career).

I do agree that the press can be unnecessarily cruel though.

She must have known what was going to happen. Her image is in tatters & she needed to do something about it before her business goes tits up!
The press are shits, no matter who you are. They build you up & then knock you down. Very unfair.

Oh hell, I’m with you actually. I think Peter is cringy and pathetic and a good actor- he’s milking it all.
I think Katie is a lot more intelligent than the image she portrays, she is a very astute business woman.
I do think she’s selling herself out but then she reaps the benefits tenfold.
I also think she used to be stunning but through her own obviously low self esteem has ruined her looks with all the surgery.
    great post

Thank you, that’s really nice of you to say. She does look a bit of a mess now. I have to wonder what is so wrong with her self esteem that she makes her self into this grotesque, big lipped creature, She was quite bonny before.

I cant believe you have tuned my option of her around, you have missed your calling you should be a politician or Jordan’s PR! ;D x

I hate Peter always have, he just seems too…plastic. He reminds me of the ken dolls you can get! I use to really love Pamela Anderson, for the same reasons tat I know respect Katie Price. I know a few models of the adult variety and of the fashion kind and they all say the same thing make hay whilst the sun shines!

Exactly! I would if I could! Just no one wants to look at my naked body, not even me! Find the industry fascinating though, you must have very interesting friends!

I agree! I saw on on The Graham Norton show a few weeks ago, and she was honest about the way she looks, what she has done… do I want to be like her? No. But her honesty was more than we see from a lot of celebrities.

I saw that too! She was really good. I love her honesty, very much in contrast to people like Cheryl Cole who projects herself to being perfect when she obviously isn’t!

I’ve always had a soft spot for Jordan. She is very savvy and I would love to have half her money
