The Gallery – Animals

August 31, 2011

Tara said those dreaded words this week – ‘think outside the box’ but we will forgive her because it worked! When I saw this week’s topic was Animals I was going to post a picture of one of my pets but decided to think bigger.

Quite a lot bigger. And a bit more dead.

You have to drive up a long, unlit road through the bush to get to my sister’s estate in Australia. Kangaroos get disoriented by the headlights and jump into the road, causing their own deaths and sometimes those of the unsuspecting drivers. One night we nearly hit a bloody great big kanga and had to have a stiff drink when we got in! (any excuse though to be honest)

It’s one thing seeing lovely ‘roos in the zoo. It’s another thing to see them bounding about with their friends in the wild. And then it’s something else entirely to see them leap in front of you car. We didn’t hit it though. This ‘roo wasn’t so lucky though.

Yes, for your enjoyment and entertainment here is a photo of a dead kangaroo by the side of Wanneroo Road between Butler and Yanchep.

You’re welcome….

For other, probably less dead entries bob on over to Tara’s.

Disclaimer: no animals were hurt in the making of this post. I know it is sad that this kangaroo died but they are regarded as vermin in Australia and therefore it’s no different to seeing a squashed squirrel here.

Poor Kanga. Might do slightly more damage to your car than a squirrel though! Emma 🙂

Ah yes – excellent point!! My sister & her husband had just bought a new car so hitting one would have been doubly bad!

Actually it is quite common back home to see that. The first kanga my hubby saw in Oz was roadkill, he actually thought it was a rock because it had so many flies on it!

    Thanks for educating the masses!!!

Just remembering the picture being taken and driving off almost wetting myself brings back so many memories!!! ha,ha,ha,ha!
